Your domain name is your website address (www.widgets.com) and it is registered through a company known as a domain registrar. It costs about $10/year. Most hosting providers can also do domain name registration.
You choose your domain name and AMCK will register it and set up the hosting—all done in your name. You then pay the recurring charge to the hosting provider (usually quarterly or yearly).
Some web designers set up domain registration and hosting in their name, but we prefer to set it up in your name for three good reasons:
1) you have full ownership of your site; all hosting records are in your name
2) you have complete control over your site and can cancel it, change the payment method, etc
3) you avoid paying a web designer their mark-up fee for hosting your site
Hosting charges vary according to the size of the website and the payment plan you choose, with the average cost at about $8/month.
You will have access to your website traffic statistics which contain very useful data on how many visitors you have to your web pages and how they get there.
We will set up your new email address(es) for you and will guide you through the configuration of your email application (Outlook Express, for example) with your new email address.
You can update and edit your web pages by using a simple wysiwyg editing application (much like what you find in MS Word). This will enable you to make simple text updates, image change-outs, etc. For more complex changes to your site, AMCK is on-hand to make any sort of edits you need—large or small—in a superbly timely fashion and will bill you on an hourly basis. If you anticipate ongoing and regular maintenance, we can set up a contract to suit your needs.
